Welding Electrode

E309MoL-16 Stainless Steel Welding Electrode

E309MoL-16, also classified as E309LMo-16, is a low-carbon Cr-Ni-Mo stainless steel welding electrode conforming to AWS A5.4 / ASME SFA-5.4. With a typical 22Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo weld metal, it is mainly selected for dissimilar metal welding, including stainless steel to carbon steel or low-alloy steel, and for selected clad steel applications.

Where to Use E309MoL-16

This electrode is commonly used for:
  • Stainless steel to carbon steel
  • Stainless steel to low-alloy steel
  • Mo-containing stainless steel to carbon steel
  • 316 / 316L clad steel welding
  • Stainless steel buffer or transition layers
  • Low-carbon 22Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo stainless steel
  • Chemical and petrochemical equipment
  • Industrial fabrication and repair
The addition of Mo makes E309MoL-16 particularly relevant to applications involving molybdenum-containing stainless steels, while its low carbon level supports applications where reduced carbon content is required.

Why Choose E309MoL-16?

E309MoL-16 combines the characteristics of a 309-type stainless steel electrode with low carbon and molybdenum alloying.
  • Low carbon: C ≤0.04%
  • Chromium: 22–25%
  • Nickel: 12–14%
  • Molybdenum: 2–3%
  • Good resistance to weld cracking
  • Good heat resistance
  • Suitable for dissimilar stainless steel and carbon-steel joints
  • Suitable for AC or DC+ welding
