ERNi-CI is an AWS A5.15 pure nickel solid wire with nickel content ≥98% for cast iron welding. It delivers outstanding toughness and effectively inhibits carbon migration. The key benefits are non-hardening welds, excellent machinability and superior crack resistance, suitable for cast iron defect repair and dissimilar metal welding.
Welding Characteristics
Applicable Processes: TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW)
Polarity: DCEN (DC-)
No high-temperature preheating required; cold repair available with minimal deformation. Short, segmented and intermittent welding is recommended to reduce cracking risk.
Shielding Gas
99.99% Pure Argon (100% Ar)
Typical Mechanical Properties (As-Welded)
Tensile Strength: ≥450MPa
Elongation: ≥35%
Weld deposit: High ductility, non-hardening, excellent crack resistance
Features
· Pure nickel, low dilution, prevents white hard layer.
· High ductility relieves stress and avoids cold & peeling cracks.
· Smooth weld beads, excellent machinability.
· Soft arc, minimal spatter, easy operation.
· For dissimilar welding: cast iron-carbon steel, cast iron-stainless steel.
Welding Guidelines
Thoroughly remove oil, graphite and oxide scale on cast iron surface; flame cleaning is recommended if necessary.
Use low current, low heat input, narrow bead and fast travel speed.
Lightly hammer each weld segment immediately after welding to relieve stress and avoid cracks.
Thick workpieces may be preheated at 80–120℃; high-temperature preheating is forbidden.
Allow natural slow cooling after welding; forced air cooling is prohibited.
Product Comparison
Compared with nickel-iron wire (ERNiFe-CI):
ERNi-CI provides better ductility, higher crack resistance and superior machinability.
It is ideal for high-precision cast iron repairs requiring machining. Higher cost, classified as premium wire for cast iron restoration.
