ER4047 Aluminum Welding Wire – MIG Wire & TIG Rods

ER4047 aluminum welding wire is an Al-Si filler metal containing 11–13% silicon under the AWS A5.10 classification. Its high silicon content provides good weld pool fluidity and a relatively low melting range. Available in MIG wire and TIG rod forms, ER4047 is considered for compatible aluminum casting repairs and selected aluminum joining applications. Confirm the base alloy and required weld properties before ordering

ER4047 Aluminum Welding Wire for Aluminum Casting Repair

ER4047 is an aluminum-silicon welding filler metal containing 11–13% silicon. Compared with ER4043, it generally offers greater weld pool fluidity, a lower melting range and reduced solidification shrinkage.
These characteristics make ER4047 worth considering for compatible aluminum castings and applications where filler metal flow is important. The correct choice still depends on the base alloy, joint design and required mechanical properties.

Key Benefits of ER4047

  • 11–13% silicon: Higher silicon content than ER4043.
  • Good weld pool fluidity: Helps the filler metal flow and wet compatible joint surfaces.
  • Relatively low melting range: Useful for selected aluminum joining and repair applications.
  • MIG and TIG product forms: Available options depend on the required diameter and packaging.
  • Anodizing consideration: The weld may appear darker than the surrounding aluminum after anodizing.

ER4047 Aluminum Welding Wire Applications

ER4047 may be considered for the following applications when the filler metal is compatible with the base material and service requirements:
  • Aluminum casting repair: Selected silicon-containing castings, housings and components.
  • Heat exchangers and aluminum tubing: Compatible joints where filler flow and joint sealing are important.
  • Selected aluminum fabrication: Applications requiring the specific characteristics of an Al-Si filler metal.
  • Maintenance and repair: Aluminum components where the base alloy and required properties can be identified or assessed.
ER4047 should not be selected for every aluminum alloy by default. High-magnesium 5xxx alloys and critical structural applications require specific compatibility and welding-procedure review.

Which one should you choose?
Consider ER4047 when higher weld pool fluidity is important and the base alloy is compatible. ER4043 is a common option for many general aluminum welding applications. Neither filler metal is universally better.
