E91T1-B3 is available as E91T1-B3C and E91T1-B3M for different shielding-gas requirements.

E91T1-B3 for P22 Welding

The main application of E91T1-B3 is welding 2.25% Cr-1% Mo steel, making it a suitable FCAW option for P22/T22 and related Cr-Mo materials.
Typical applications include:
  • ASTM A335 P22 pipe
  • ASTM A213 T22 tube
  • ASTM A387 Grade 22 plate
  • ASTM A182 F22 components
  • Boiler and steam piping
  • Pressure vessels
  • Petrochemical and refinery equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • High-temperature Cr-Mo steel fabrication and repair
The weld deposit is designed around the Cr-Mo chemistry used for elevated-temperature service.

E91T1-B3C or E91T1-B3M?

The C and M suffixes identify the shielding-gas option.
Classification
Shielding Gas
E91T1-B3C
100% COâ‚‚
E91T1-B3M
Ar/COâ‚‚ mixed gas
Published products commonly specify 100% COâ‚‚ for B3C and Ar/COâ‚‚ mixtures for B3M. The exact gas ratio should follow the manufacturer's TDS and qualified WPS.

Welding Process & Classification

  • AWS A5.29: E91T1-B3C / E91T1-B3M
  • ASME SFA-5.29: E91T1-B3C / E91T1-B3M
  • Process: FCAW-G
  • Polarity: DC+
  • Typical Diameters: 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 mm

E91T1-B3 is a rutile flux cored wire designed for single- and multi-pass welding. Published product data highlights stable arc performance, low spatter and easy slag removal.

Weld Metal Chemistry

AWS classification reference limits:
Element
Reference (%)
C
0.05–0.12
Mn
≤1.25
Si
≤0.80
P
≤0.030
S
≤0.030
Cr
2.00–2.50
Mo
0.90–1.20
Typical deposited weld metal is close to 2.25% Cr and 1.0% Mo. Actual chemistry depends on the wire manufacturer, shielding gas and welding conditions.

Mechanical Properties

The AWS classification requires approximately:
Property
Requirement
Yield Strength
≥540 MPa
Tensile Strength
620–760 MPa
Elongation
≥17%
Typical commercial results can exceed these minimum requirements. For example, published data for E91T1-B3 shows tensile strength around 705–726 MPa and elongation around 18–20% after stress relief/PWHT.

Welding Parameters

Typical current ranges for commercial E91T1-B3 wire are:
Wire Diameter
Current Range
1.2 mm
120–300 A
1.4 mm
200–350 A
1.6 mm
200–400 A
These are reference ranges rather than universal settings. Actual current, voltage, wire feed speed and shielding-gas flow should follow the product TDS and qualified WPS.

P22 Preheat and PWHT

For P22 and other 2.25Cr-1Mo steels, welding procedure control is important for high-temperature and pressure applications.
Preheat, interpass temperature and PWHT should be established according to the base material, thickness, applicable construction code and qualified WPS.
Published E91T1-B3 product data commonly uses PWHT around 690°C, while preheat requirements vary by manufacturer and welding procedure.
