Metal & Flux Cored Wire

E316LT1-1/-4 Stainless Steel Flux Cored Welding Wire

E316LT1-1/-4 stainless steel flux cored welding wire is designed for gas-shielded FCAW of 316L-type stainless steels. Its chromium-nickel-molybdenum weld metal supports applications requiring resistance to pitting and general corrosion. Suitable for selected chemical, process and stainless steel fabrication projects, subject to material compatibility and welding procedures.

Product Overview

E316LT1-1/-4 is a molybdenum-bearing stainless steel flux cored welding wire for gas-shielded flux-cored arc welding (FCAW-G). It is designed for compatible 316L-type austenitic stainless steels where weld metal corrosion resistance is an important consideration.
Unlike conventional 308L-type weld metal, 316L-type weld metal contains molybdenum, which helps improve resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments. Actual corrosion performance depends on the base material, welding procedure, surface condition and service environment.

Classification and Shielding Gas

AWS Classification
Shielding Gas
E316LT1-1
100% CO₂
E316LT1-4
Ar/CO₂ mixed gas
The suffix identifies the shielding-gas classification. Use the gas specified by the product certificate and qualified welding procedure. For mixed-gas applications, follow the manufacturer's recommended gas composition.

Applications Across Industries

E316LT1-1/-4 is commonly used for welding compatible 18Cr-12Ni-2Mo stainless steels. Its applications are concentrated in equipment exposed to moisture, process chemicals or other conditions where the selected stainless steel grade requires enhanced corrosion resistance.
Typical applications include:
  • Chemical processing tanks and equipment
  • Stainless steel pressure vessels and piping
  • Pulp and paper processing equipment
  • Refinery and textile processing equipment
  • Selected industrial fabrication and maintenance projects
For food, pharmaceutical or low-temperature service, verify the required material approvals, cleanliness requirements and impact-test results before selecting the welding consumable.

Deposited Metal Chemical Composition

The following table lists reference chemical composition limits for AWS E316LT1-1/-4 classifications. Confirm the applicable standard edition and GD WELD product certificate before treating these values as guaranteed specifications.
Element
Composition (wt.%)
Carbon (C)
≤ 0.04
Manganese (Mn)
0.50–2.50
Silicon (Si)
≤ 1.00
Phosphorus (P)
≤ 0.04
Sulfur (S)
≤ 0.03
Chromium (Cr)
17.0–20.0
Nickel (Ni)
11.0–14.0
Molybdenum (Mo)
2.0–3.0
Copper (Cu)
≤ 0.75
These are reference classification limits for undiluted deposited weld metal, not actual batch analysis results. Refer to the manufacturer's inspection certificate for verified product chemistry.

Mechanical Properties

Property
Reference Requirement
Tensile Strength
≥ 485 MPa
Elongation
≥ 30%
These are commonly published reference requirements for E316LT1-1/-4 products. Verify the applicable AWS A5.22 edition and GD WELD product certificate before using them as guaranteed specifications. Actual test results may vary with shielding gas and welding conditions.

Welding Recommendations

Use DCEP (DC+) polarity and the shielding gas specified for the selected classification. Wire diameter, current, voltage, gas flow rate and welding position should follow the manufacturer's technical data sheet and qualified welding procedure.
Keep the joint clean and maintain adequate shielding during welding. For corrosion-critical applications, appropriate post-weld cleaning and removal of surface contamination help preserve corrosion resistance.
