产品名称 ER5183
ALUMINUM WELDING WIRE (MIG & TIG)
ER5183 has significantly higher manganese content than ER5356, delivering finer grains, enhanced weld toughness, and superior resistance to intergranular corrosion and hot cracking.
Applicable Standards
Applicable Standards: American Standard: AWS A5.10 ER5183
European Standard: EN ISO 18273:S Al 5183(AlMg4.5Mn0.7(A))
Standard Diameter & Packaging
• MIG wires: 0.8/0.9/1.0/1.2/1.6 mm, Standard spools: 0.45kg, 0.5kg, 1kg, 2kg,5kg,6 kg, 7 kg
• TIG rods: 1.6/2.0/2.4/3.2/4.0/5.0 mm, 1m fixed length, packed in5kg plastic tube and 5kg cardboard box.
Shielding Gas
• Preferred: 100% pure Ar. Ar+He mixture for thick plates requiring deep penetration. - Flow rate: MIG 18–25 L/min, TIG 12–18 L/min.
Mechanical Properties of Deposited Metal
• Tensile Strength: 275–300 MPa
• Yield Strength: 135–150 MPa
• Elongation (A5): 20%–28%
• Good low-temperature impact toughness for low-temperature applications.
• Melting Range: 570–630℃
What should we do before welding ER5183?
• Fully remove oil and oxide film on grooves & wire; Al₂O₃ easily triggers porosity.
• Clean via stainless steel brush/milling; no carbon steel grinding.
• Preheat plates over 12mm to 80~120℃ to lower porosity & cold cracking risks.
• Limit heat input; avoid long high-temperature exposure to prevent sensitization and poor corrosion resistance.
Key Advantages
• First choice for welding 5083 base metal
-Weld strength matches 5083-O/H111; widely used in shipbuilding and offshore engineering
• Better seawater & salt spray corrosion resistance than ER5356
• Mn and Cr prevent sensitization, ideal for marine and offshore platforms
• Good hot crack resistance, stable welding for thick plates and restrained structures
-Excellent low-temperature performance for cryogenic tanks and LNG aluminum structures
• Uniform white color after anodizing with little color difference
• Applicable to both MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW)
Recommended Base Metals
✅ Recommended: 5083, 5086, 5454, 5456, 5754 (5xxx Al-Mg alloys)
✅ Dissimilar weld: 5xxx ↔ 6xxx (6061/6063, careful evaluation for structures)
❌ Not allowed: Cast Al, 2xxx Al-Cu. Do not use ER4043/4047 on 5xxx; Si+Mg forms low-melting phases and causes cracks.
Important Note: Max continuous service temp ≤65℃. High-temperature long-term use may lead to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
Common Welding Problem & Solutions
• Weld Porosity Cause: Unremoved oxide film, impure/moist shielding gas, air draft. Solution: Thorough cleaning, wind protection, use ≥99.999 high-purity argon.
• Intergranular Corrosion Risk Cause: High heat input, excessive interpass temperature in multi-layer welding.
Solution: Increase travel speed and control interpass temperature.
