Standard Diameter & Packaging
• MIG wires: 0.8/0.9/1.0/1.2/1.6 mm, Standard spools: 0.45kg, 0.5kg, 1kg, 2kg,5kg,6 kg, 7 kg
• TIG rods: 1.6/2.0/2.4/3.2/4.0/5.0 mm, 1m fixed length, packed in5kg plastic tube and 5kg cardboard box.
Shielding Gas (MIG + TIG)
• Pure Argon (99.99% purity).
• For thick plates, mix Argon with a small amount of Helium to increase penetration.
• Gas Flow Rate: 8–12 L/min for manual TIG welding, 15–22 L/min for MIG welding
• Wind shielding is mandatory during welding.
What should we do before welding ER5356?
• Fully remove oil and oxide film on grooves & wire; Al₂O₃ easily triggers porosity.
• Clean via stainless steel brush/milling; no carbon steel grinding.
• Preheat plates over 12mm to 80~120℃ to lower porosity & cold cracking risks.
• Limit heat input; avoid long high-temperature exposure to prevent sensitization and poor corrosion resistance.
Welding attention of ER5356 (MIG + TIG)
• TIG rods: 0.8–2.4mm for thin sheets, low current & slow filler feeding
• MIG spool wire: φ0.8/1.0/1.2/1.6mm, ideal for automatic welding; short arc reduces oxidation
Features
• Ultra-high tensile strength Weld tensile strength ≥270MPa, higher than ER4043. No joint strength loss on 5052/5083/5086 aluminum.
• Excellent corrosion resistance Contains Mg and Cr, great for seawater & damp environments: ships, battery trays, outdoor aluminum frames.
• Consistent anodizing effect Weld matches base metal color, perfect for decorative aluminum, 6063 windows and PV brackets. ER4043 darkens after anodizing.
• Good ductility & crack resistance Mg-based filler avoids hot cracks on thin/extruded aluminum; tough and impact-resistant welds.
Disadvantages
• Lower fluidity than ER4043, not recommended for thick aluminum castings
• Prone to oxidation at high temperatures, requires reliable shielding and wind protection
• Welds turn dark after grinding, harder to polish than Al-Si welding wire

5-series & 6-series aluminum, Al-Mg castings & extruded aluminum
• Not Applicable
High-silicon cast aluminum such as ADC12 and ZL104. It causes pores and brittle welds. Use ER4043 instead.
